BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) Studentships

Eligibility

Applicants for a studentships must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a first or upper second class UK honours degree, or the equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK, in an appropriate area of science or technology.

These studentships are available to UK and other EU nationals (due to funding criteria, EU nationals MUST have resided in the UK for three years prior to commencing the studentship) and provides funding for tuition fees and stipend, subject to eligibility.

Funding available for EU nationals

The University of Manchester aims to support the most outstanding applicants from within the EU that do not meet the residence criteria outlined above. EU applicants that have not resided in the UK for three years prior to commencing the studentship, are eligible for a ‘fees only’ studentship from the BBSRC DTP. However, in exceptional circumstances, the University may be able to offer a stipend bursary for EU applicants, subject to availability. EU applicants should be aware of their eligibility for a full or part-studentship before applying.

President’s Doctoral Scholar Awards

The University of Manchester will launch a further £2.5m investment in PhD training with the creation of the President’s Doctoral Scholar Awards (PDS Awards).  Full details on the scheme can be found on the Faculty of Life Sciences' PhD programmes Funding page.

All application for the BBSRC DTP will be AUTOMATICALLY considered for one of these prestigious awards.  Based on your academic record and research potential we aim to support a number of BBSRC DTP funded students through the additional PDS Awards route.  PDS Awards status will entitle our most outstanding BBSRC DTP students with an additional £1,000 enhancement to their annual stipend.   If you have any queries about this award, please contact Jessica Bowler (email), who is the scheme co-ordinator for the Faculty of Life Sciences.
